IBHBOT sets the standard, writes the examinations and keeps the public registry for hyperbaric technicians and dive medical personnel. Every course is the IBHBOT course, taught at approved training sites. The credential belongs to the board.

Two Courses. A Credential for Every License.
Every IBHBOT credential starts with one of two IBHBOT courses. Your license decides which credential you apply for.
Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine
Every graduate receives a certificate of completion, then applies for:
- AHT, then RHT: no license, respiratory therapists, EMTs, paramedics
- AHN, then HNS: RNs and LPNs
- HMP: PAs, NPs and physicians
Dive Medical Technician
For medics in dive, offshore, maritime, public safety and remote operations. The tier follows your license:
- DMT-A: paramedics, NPs and PAs
- DMT-B: EMTs
- DMT-C: commercial divers without an EMT or paramedic license
How Certification Works
- Complete the IBHBOT courseTake the IBHBOT course for your credential at an approved training site and pass its end-of-course exam. Keep your proof of completion.
- Apply and pay the exam feeSubmit the online application with your documents. The board reviews every application before anyone tests.
- Get approved to testApproved candidates receive access to the timed online examination and a window to complete it.
- Pass and join the registryYour credential is issued, dated to your exam, and listed on the public registry.

For Credential Holders
Credentials renew every 36 months through continuing education or a refresher course. RHT holders also maintain clinical practice; DMT holders keep their qualifying license current.
